Profile:

Zhang Qingmin is Professor and Chair of the Department of Diplomacy and Foreign Affairs Management, School of International Studies at Peking University. His teaching and research interests include Chinese Foreign Policy, Diplomatic Studies, Theory of Foreign Policy Analysis, and China and East Asia. He is the author of China’s Foreign Relations, U.S. Arms Sales Policy toward Taiwan: a Decision-Making Perspective, Contemporary China’s Diplomacy and more than a hundred peer reviewed journal articles and book chapters both in Chinese and English. He has translated from English to Chinese Woodrow Wilson and Colonel House: A Personality Studies by Alexander and Juliet George, Groupthink: Psychological Studies of Policy Decisions and Fiascoes by Irving Janis, and Diplomacy in a Globalizing World: Theories and Practice edited by Pauline Kerr and Geoffrey Wiseman. He has been a senior Fulbright Visiting Scholar at George Washington University’s Elliot School of International Affairs from 2004-2005 and visiting Professor at Faculty of Law, Tokyo University (Jan.-Feb.2013). He has rich international teaching experience, including teaching Chinese foreign policy related course at University Paris Sud (2007), Niigata University, Japan (2008), University of Palermo, Italy (2009), and National Chengchi University of Taiwan (Oct. 2013), the summer school of London School of Economics and Politics (2009-now), the joint program between Cornel University and Peking University (2009-2014). Before joining Peking University in 2007 he worked at China Foreign Affairs University as a professor and coordinator for training programs for junior and senior diplomats, and he lectures regularly to Chinese Government sponsored training program to foreign government officials and professionals form Hong Kong and Macau. He was a founding editorial board member of Foreign Policy Analysis (in the U.S.) and has been on editorial board of The Hague Journal of Diplomatic Studies since 2012. He received his M.A. from Brigham Young University in Utah, USA and his Ph.D. from China Foreign Affairs University.
