On the morning of June 12, the “China-U.S. Student Leaders Exchange” was successfully held at Peking University. The event was hosted by the Pacific International Exchange Foundation, and co-organized by the Yenching Academy of Peking University and the Peking University Institute for Global Cooperation and Understanding. More than 20 student government leaders from various U.S. universities participated. Through this exchange, Chinese and American students engaged in discussions on issues of mutual concern, enhanced mutual understanding, and deepened the bonds of friendship between the younger generations of both countries.
The welcome ceremony took place at the Yenching Academy of Peking University. Prof. Fan Shiming, Associate Dean of the Academy, delivered welcoming remarks to the visiting delegation. He introduced the Academy’s international characteristics and its focus on China Studies. Prof. Fan emphasized the importance of strengthening people-to-people exchanges at a time when China-U.S. relations face challenges. He also highlighted Peking University’s inclusiveness and openness, as well as its role in promoting dialogue between China and the United States. Finally, he encouraged the delegation members to fully enjoy their visit to Peking University and to engage in meaningful conversations with PKU students.

During breakout sessions, Chinese and American students held in-depth discussions on topics of shared concern. Outside of the discussions, the U.S. delegation visited the Peking University Arthur M. Sackler Museum of Art and Archaeology, where the diverse collection and detailed historical narratives allowed them to experience firsthand the depth and richness of China’s long history and cultural traditions. The delegation also toured Weiming Lake, immersing themselves in the university’s academic atmosphere and campus culture, and gaining a deeper appreciation of PKU’s distinctive spirit.
The future of China-U.S. relations lies in the younger generation. This event not only witnessed the growing friendship between Chinese and American students but also demonstrated their shared interest in global issues and their spirit of openness and inclusivity. The mutual understanding forged between the youth of both nations will help write new chapters of friendship and contribute youthful energy to the prosperity of both countries and the wider world.
