On the morning of April 29, 2023, the donation ceremony for the Future Scholarship and Teaching Award was held in Room B117 of the School of International Studies (SIS), Peking University. Alumni representatives Mr. Qin Lihong (Co-founder of NIO), Mr. Zhou Qiangwu (Vice President and CEO of the New Development Bank), and Mr. Wang Yong (Deputy Secretary-General of the Peking University Education Foundation) attended the ceremony. The School was represented by Dean Prof. Tang Shiqi, Party Secretary Prof. Chu Xiaobo, Vice Dean Prof. Zhang Haibin, Deputy Party Secretaries Prof. Zhu Yibo and Prof. Xiang Zuotao, Assistant Dean and Director of the Alumni Office Prof. Zhang Xinyang, and Deputy Director of the Alumni Office Ms. Jin Rui. The ceremony was chaired by Prof. Xiang Zuotao.

Prof. Xiang extended a warm welcome to the alumni, expressing the hope that they would continue to visit their alma mater often. He also outlined the significance of establishing the Future Scholarship and Teaching Award.

In his address, Dean Tang Shiqi emphasized that the establishment of the Future Scholarship and Teaching Award provides strong support for the School and greatly motivates both the administrative team and outstanding students. On behalf of the faculty and students, he expressed heartfelt gratitude to alumnus Qin Lihong for his generous donation. He also shared recent developments at the School, reaffirming SIS’s commitment to cultivating students with “global vision and devotion to China,” fostering socially responsible talents, and serving national strategic needs with the enduring support of its alumni.

Speaking on behalf of the alumni, Qin Lihong expressed appreciation to the School for hosting the donation ceremony. He recalled his student days at PKU, acknowledging the dedication of SIS faculty and the profound influence of his education on his career. He stressed that contributing to the School’s development is a heartfelt aspiration of all SIS alumni, and he hopes the establishment of the scholarship and teaching award will inspire more faculty, students, and alumni to work for the continued growth of the School.

Prof. Chu Xiaobo read and presented a certificate of appreciation to Qin Lihong, thanking him sincerely for his contributions. He introduced the planned use of the Future Scholarship and Teaching Award, pledging that the School would honor the donor’s intentions, adhere to regulations, and ensure proper implementation of the program to support faculty and students and live up to alumni expectations.
