Class of 2004 Alumni Return to Campus for 20th Anniversary Reunion

On August 24, 2024, alumni of the Class of 2004 from the School of International Studies (SIS), Peking University (PKU) returned to Yanyuan with their children to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their graduation and the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Department of Political Science. The event was hosted by Yu Tiejun (Professor at SIS, PKU; Class Advisor in 2000). Attendees included Tang Shiqi (Dean of SIS, PKU), Kang Tao (Party Secretary of SIS, PKU), Zhang Xinyang (Deputy Party Secretary of SIS, PKU), faculty representatives Prof. Li Hanmei and Prof. Wang Qifen, as well as Ms. Jin Rui (Office for Alumni Affairs).

The reunion took place in the SIS lecture hall, which was renovated three years ago with the collective donations of the Class of 2004. The walls were adorned with photos of student life from two decades ago, alongside books recently published by alumni, creating an atmosphere rich with youthful memories and academic spirit. Dean Tang Shiqi reviewed the School’s achievements and future plans in the areas of academic development, student training, and research output, while expressing his gratitude for the alumni’s lasting attention and support.

Prof. Kang Tao highly commended the “Alumni Fund” initiated by the Class of 2004, emphasizing that their concrete actions have not only supported the School’s development but also inspired alumni from other classes to engage more deeply with SIS.

Prof. Zhang Xinyang provided a brief overview of student affairs and alumni work, encouraging alumni to continue supporting current students, while thanking them for their longstanding contributions to the School.

Prof. Wang Qifen and Prof. Li Hanmei each delivered heartfelt remarks, recalling cherished memories and extending their best wishes for the alumni’s future. Their words highlighted the enduring bond of teacher-student affection that transcends time, filling the gathering with warmth and emotion.

The alumni enthusiastically shared their career journeys, life experiences, and gratitude to their alma mater over the past 20 years. They reflected on the changes in their personal and professional lives since graduation, noting that while their paths have diverged, the ties of friendship have remained strong. They unanimously expressed that the School’s education and their professors’ guidance were indispensable foundations for their achievements. It was through SIS’s training and their teachers’ mentorship that they learned to pursue excellence in their fields and to live with gratitude. No matter where life takes them, they will never forget the nurturing of their alma mater and will continue to support the School’s growth.
